  • The building’s name is derived from “Selonia”, the Latin name of the historic Sēlija region. The same name was proudly borne by the first Latvian student fraternity, founded by K. Pēkšēns. Today, the building’s name honours the architect’s contribution and his connection to Latvia’s cultural roots.

Architectural heritage

The historic buildings of the Pētersala project were designed by Latvian architect Konstantīns Pēkšēns, whose work shaped Riga at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, with more than 250 major buildings completed to his designs. In honour of this outstanding Art Nouveau architect, both buildings will be restored while preserving their original historic elements.

The result is a harmonious residential quarter that continues the story of Viesturdārzs, where contemporary living meets classical architecture. This unique combination lends the Pētersala project both aesthetic and cultural-historical value.

Location advantagesA thoughtful urban setting

The environment of Pētersala is designed as a natural extension of the home — a place where beauty and clarity exist alongside movement and a sense of ease. More than a backdrop to everyday life, it is a setting that encourages togetherness, moments of rest and genuine connection.

  • For families with children

At Pētersala, special care is given to family life. A safe, functional and well-designed playground offers space for children’s energy and parents’ peace of mind. Here, children move, play and form their first friendships, while parents enjoy moments of calm within the rhythm of everyday life.

  • For activity and relaxation

Activities that fit the rhythm of everyday life. A basketball hoop invites shared moments and friendly competition. A dynamic environment for all ages, where spontaneous play becomes a moment of movement and release. Pētersala continues the story of Viesturdārzs – with an outdoor workout area that supports energy and balance in daily life.

  • For neighbourly moments

A quiet corner for conversation – a gazebo beside the children’s playground, benches in the shade of mature trees and carefully arranged greenery close by. A natural setting for a morning coffee, an unhurried evening or time spent together. Moments of shared presence come easily here. Like a scene from a familiar film – only this time, it’s your own.

  • For everyday peace of mind

A secure environment brings calm to everyday life. At Pētersala, this is ensured through discreet video monitoring across the grounds and shared resident areas – including the basement level, building entrances, and bicycle and pram storage rooms. A friendly on-site security guard is part of daily life. The result is a thoughtfully designed and secure home from the very first day.

Historic architecture, continued

Pētersala, with its historic character and inherent potential, is the heart of the entire team’s work. It is both an opportunity and a responsibility – to carry forward something enduring. Here, from the first sketch to lived-in homes, architects, engineers, designers, environmental and other specialists come together to create homes where heritage becomes a value of today.

  • Inese Berga

Pētersala is not only a gem of Riga’s Quiet Centre, but also a significant part of the Merko mājas portfolio. It offers a rare opportunity to provide a diverse range of homes – from authentic historic character to contemporary solutions. An honour to be part of history continued.

  • Linda Medne

The Quiet Centre is one of Riga’s most refined residential districts. Here, Art Nouveau is part of Latvia’s presence on the international stage. Merko mājas’ new residential project responds both to the search for authenticity and to the expectations of contemporary living.

  • Roberts Rēboks

Choose the century you want to live in. Pētersala is a unique project in our experience – a place where contemporary living spaces meet the city’s historic 20th-century landscape in quiet harmony.

  • Ludmila Šakurova

Like a sketch that breaks free from the confines of its drawing, the Pētersala project is both challenging and inspiring at once. Shaped by unexpected turns, it ultimately delivers a deep sense of fulfilment.
